This term the Reception/Year 1s are doing an author study on Julia Donaldson as part of their writing topic on narratives. Last week they read the story Stick Man and made their own stick people. Students used these to create narratives about the adventures of their stick people in the school yard.

This week the class has been reading The Gruffalo. Yesterday they made head bands of the different characters and enjoyed acting the story out. Today the Year 2s joined in for some more fun with The Gruffalo. Students worked in small groups to make the different characters out of plasticine, then headed into the garden to create the Deep Dark Wood using natural materials. Each group member was responsible for making their character’s home. It was fantastic to see the students working together to create their own versions of the Deep Dark Wood.
