In my job, I’m very lucky to be able to visit schools all over Australia and several overseas. And it struck me, as I ate my home-made chicken and vegetable teriyaki stir-fry, that as well as all the great educational programs and facilities our College has, we have a canteen like no other I’ve seen. The meal I ate cost me $5 – and it was restaurant quality, made from fresh ingredients, from scratch. And it was prepared, by Sonja Ledgard (pictured below) and her outstanding assistants at our canteen!
If you haven’t, have a close look at our Canteen Menu. From burgers to yiros, to chilli con carne, to soup, baguettes, nachos, salads, pasta (five types!), wraps, sandwiches, butter chicken, sushi…..ALL home-made, NONE costing more than $5.
Our students (and staff!) are truly blessed to be looked after by Sonja and her dedicated team.
Our Senior students (Years 10-12) have an additional benefit. Because of our vast range of flexible learning offerings, students in the Senior years are extremely busy… so they have the option of purchasing home-cooked meals, ready to be heated in their student lounge in the Senior School building. For $5, students and staff can choose from teriyaki chicken and vegetable stir-fry with hokkien noodles, lasagne, teriyaki vegetarian stir-fry with hokkien noodles, beef ravioli with home-made Italian sauce, spinach and ricotta ravioli with home-made Italian sauce, chilli con carne with nachos, butter chicken with rice, and Italian meatballs with spaghetti. There are also various home-made soups for $3.
As some of our newly enrolled students commented: “UNBELIEVABLE!”
Students cannot learn on empty stomachs…and, in a time when we are all conscious of the need for wholesome, healthy food, our wonderful canteen means parents can order children’s lunches, or treats, knowing that low prices and outstanding quality go hand-in-hand.
