Well that’s a wrap for SALA Student Art Show 2017 and what a rockstar of a show – it was not around for a long time but students were the main stars! Families, friends, the local community, teachers, principals and Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council representatives came in their droves to see the high standard of work on show. A big thank you to everyone who attended – exposure like that instills confidence in our young artists to be proud of their art work, continue to keep exhibiting and grow their passion for the Visual and Creative Arts.

Reception to Year 12 students from the schools involved (Goolwa Primary School, Port Elliot Primary School, Victor Harbor R-7 School, Encounter Lutheran College, Victor Harbor High School and Investigator College) worked hard to produce outstanding works from paintings, drawings and sculpture, right through to collage and photographic works. It also featured Senior SACE work for Visual Art and Photography, and was on display in the Investigator College Senior School Building (Bacchus Road, Victor Harbor).

The SAS (Student Art Show) Committee hopes that this will become an annual event, and plans to involve schools further along the Fleurieu Peninsula as well as sharing the hosting responsibilities across schools involved. With the support we have received from the community, there is also the possibility of incorporating all of the Arts – Music, Art, Media, Dance, Drama – to make this an Arts-wide event held across multiple venues for a longer period of time.

We would like to acknowledge the following people for their support: Andrew Robertson and Victor Harbor Rotary, Di Keach and Goolwa Rotary, Patricia Marsland, Vivienne Holloway and Victor Harbor Council, Leah Grace and Alexandrina Council, Margaret McEntee and the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, Sonya Hender and The Strand Gallery, Bluethumb, teachers, principals and students from schools involved, Alexandrina Cheese Company, Matchett’s, Mountain Fresh Fruit Juices, and to those who have offered contributions and support at our monthly meetings.

So, students involved in SALA SAS 2017, get your works ready for the 2017 Port Elliot Show and get busy creating for the Rotary Art exhibitions (GAPE and the Victor Harbor Art Show) in 2018!

See you in August 2018 at Victor R-7 School!
