One of our mums, Brooke Chandler- a local hairdresser, visited some of our Junior School students to tell them about her ‘sustainable salon’.
Brooke told students about the ways in which we can recycle product packaging such as plastics, cardboard, tin foils, hair scraps and other materials.
Brooke also talked about how hairdressers can recycle hair scraps, which can be used for hair booms to clean up oil spills in our oceans, and pony tails which can be used for wigs for cancer patients and people with hair loss.
Brooke’s salon also donates the money raised from their recycling to Oz Harvest, an organisation that feeds homeless people.
The furniture and equipment in Brooke’s salon is all made from recycled plastic or is second-hand.

Brooke’s presentation was inspirational. The Year 2s now know many new and interesting facts about how a ‘sustainable salon works.  Thank you, Brooke!
