Held annually, the Mayor’s Short Story Competition invites students from across the Fleurieu Peninsula to put pen to paper, engage their imagination, and showcase their talent for creative writing.

Open to all year levels from Reception to Year 10, the competition is a collaboration between the City of Victor Harbor, the Alexandrina Council and the District Council of Yankalilla, and attracts more than 500 entries each year, with a total of 517 entries being received for this year’s competition.

Standing out in this year’s expansive field, Investigator College was exceptionally well-represented, with the written work of 8 outstanding students (Florence Trevorrow, Laszlo Wheeler, April Bailey, Bethany Daniels, Hugh Owen, Chloe Duce, Ayla Gillies and Rose Harty) making the shortlist of finalists for 2023.

The literary talent of Florence Trevorrow (Reception to Year 2 Section), Bethany Daniels (Year 3 to Year 4 Section) and Ayla Gillies (Year 5 to Year 7 Section) earned each the title of Section Winner, and an individual prize of a $50.00 book voucher to spend on expanding their personal library.

Investigator’s exceptional performance in this year’s competition continued, with Year 7 student Ayla Gillies’ entry Benny The Robin outshining all other entries – including those in the Year 8 to Year 10 section – to claim the honour of Overall Winner and collect a prize of $1000 for the Investigator College Library.

A brilliant result for our students and for our College – and a big congratulations to our students on their amazing stories, and to Ayla for her big win!
