The children explored the largest Pioneer Village in the Southern Hemisphere, immersing themselves in what life was like in the past. They experienced an old-fashioned classroom, visited the local hotel, and even stepped into the police station. The students eagerly moved from building to building, discovering the sights and stories of days gone by. Many thanks to the parent volunteers who came with us for the day. We couldn’t have done this without you!
Hats on this term
Now that we are getting into some warmer weather, families are reminded that the students need to be wearing a hat in order to play out in the yard. If they don’t have a hat they will need to remain in the shaded area under the veranda.
Our Scarecrow pleased the Governor!
The Year 5 classes recently visited the Governor and their prize-winning scarecrow that has been guarding the vegetable patch at Government House. Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, invited the students to Government House for a tour and to check up on the work being done in the garden by their Scarecrow!
The Scarecrow, inspired by the Fleurieu Peninsula and the rich heritage of the Ramindjeri people of the Ngarrindjeri Nation/Ruwi, has an extensive list of awards to its name. Crafted from Goolwa Beach cockle shells, feathers, river reeds, and cow bones from local farming families, the scarecrow was chosen by Her Excellency and Mr Bunten as the winner of the Governor’s Choice Special Award.
It also won The Yates Prize as Best Scarecrow in Show, first place in the Scarecrow Constructed of Predominantly Natural Minerals’ Category, and was voted by the public as the People’s Choice Award winner.
Feedback from the organisers was very encouraging and students received accolades for their behaviour, as well as the insightful and engaging questions that they asked.
