The Senior School experience

Friday, 9 June 2023
Our Year 12s are almost halfway through their school year, which means they have plenty of work ahead of them. They would have summatives due and might be feeling the pressure of completing their SACE.

The Senior School experience can be quite challenging for our students. Many students juggle a heavy workload of work and study, part-time jobs, driving lessons, outside hobbies like sports and music, and of course, teenage relationships. In my journey as an educator, I have observed that those who succeed are not necessarily the most academic, but rather highly organised and motivated. They have a goal in sight and strive towards it with planning, hard work, and the strength to ask for help – help from parents, teachers, mentors, and peers. Completing school is not solely the responsibility of the student; it is a collective effort. I love the old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This rings true in 2023. Our young people are inundated with so many outside influences that, at times, it must be overwhelming for them. However, time and time again, I have witnessed students accomplish miraculous things simply by working hard, engaging with the right people, and being organised.

Or Year 10 and 11 students are about to enter exam week (Week 8). Exam week and the lead-up to it can cause anxiety and stress for some students. What is important to remember is that we are all here to support these students. It truly is a collective effort among students, families, and teachers. Talk to your student. Access Schoolbox and see what they have due, and help them understand that the right mindset and work ethic will help them achieve their goals. Talk to us if you require further help or advice. Good communication between the school and families is essential to achieve the best outcome for our students.

For our Year 12s, they have just enjoyed one of the most important events in many of their lives: the Formal. I hope you have a chance to access the photos from our Schoolbox site. It was truly a wonderful evening, and I personally enjoyed the fun and dancing with our students. They truly are terrific young people.

Our Year 12s are almost halfway through their school year, which means they have plenty of work ahead of them. They would have summatives due and might be feeling the pressure of completing their SACE. Encouraging good study habits while ensuring they make time for fun activities is an important balancing act for them. I also hope they are taking the time to put down technology and enjoy some fresh air and the company of their friends. This is crucial for their well-being. Further information regarding upcoming events for our Year 12s will be released soon. Stay tuned.
