From Our Principal

We’re all talking about the new College values!

Thursday, 15 August 2024
Staff and students alike have been unpacking our five new values. We want these to be living, permeating the very fabric of Investigator – not just words on a poster or the internet. Today I will share some of the ideas that have been suggested.

  1. Excellence- This is not just about achieving A+ scores. It involves putting in effort to achieve personal best outcomes, understanding and using our character strengths and developing our passions. We accept that we might be good at something initially, but that we can work diligently to improve; exhibiting exemplary behaviour and an openness to new learning, moving from good to great. For example, as a staff we have introduced Students at Risk (STAR) meetings for SACE students, analysing individual and collective student performance and recommending actions to help each student be his or her best self. We have also extended staffing in the Learning Strategies Team, with a full-time Coordinator role currently being advertised for 2025.
  2. Creativity – We stress the importance of seeking original, effective solutions to problems, giving students and staff permission to explore ingenuity and new possibilities in pursuit of valued outcomes, embracing opportunities enabled through 21st Century global education. To be creative we understand that sometimes we encounter hurdles and that our ingenuity plus resilience strategies taught through Positive Education programs (including The Rite Journey in Year 9) help us overcome these challenges. We also value creativity within our curricular and co-curricular offerings, valuing the Arts, student agency and recognition of our artists.
  3. Community – A strong focus is now placed on strengthening connections and engagement both within Investigator College, plus the broader Fleurieu community and beyond this. We want students and their families to feel proud of their association with the College, with a clear awareness of the benefits. Our efforts can make a positive difference to our community and in turn, make the world a better place. Old Collegians, past-parents and retirees will be encouraged to continue their involvement with Investigator, coffee mornings (such as ‘Dogs In the Quad’ ) will become more regular, volunteer programs will become more prominent and we want you all to feel an affinity with our Currency Creek EcoCentre.
  4. Sustainability– Our clear intention is to maintain our strong financial position, to support exciting new programs, build and upgrade infrastructure and employ specialist staffing to ensure that Investigator remains a beacon of excellence and innovation for the next generation also. Also, ensuring our sustainability programs, practices and considerations remain a feature of an Investigator education. Our Custodian programs will continue to develop and we will increase the focus on recycling across the College.
  5. Respect– At investigator we continue to focus on four aspects of respect: for ourselves, each other, for animals and the environment. Our student experiences at our Currency Creek Eco-campus will continue to gain traction and an ethic of care should underpin everything we do. Respect also involves choosing our words and actions carefully, using email and social media courteously, considering the rights of others to learn and to feel safe, expressing gratitude and appreciating diversity. Respect involves being honest, reflective, kind and altruistic, making good choices (even when you think nobody is watching). It involves acknowledging that the world is bigger than just us, allowing the development of Anglican Identity, serving the community and taking pride in the way our uniform is worn.

This is a particularly exciting time to be at Investigator. We love having you on the team!

Farewelling the class of 2024

This week is a significant week in the lives of our 2024 Year 12 students. This is the final, official week of school for them all. We have celebrated them in style with a variety of Spirit Week activities: dress-up as your future career, op-shop day, signing of college shirts, Staff v Year 12 students in volleyball and netball. The spirit and life around the College have been tremendous all week, but of course there have been a few tears.

A passport to do amazing things!

As parents we all want the very best for our children. We spend time pondering which school will give him or her the best opportunities, we worry about which class group or teacher will fit best, we sometimes stress over homework expectations, report comments or whether or not they won a place in a sporting team, College Musical or a leadership role.
