The ‘finals’ round of SA School Surfing Competition was held on a perfect mid-June day at Goolwa Beach with a clear sky, no  breeze and 2ft of contestable surf.

Investigator College had the U16 boys and Open girls team make it through to the final round. The U16 boys surfed well in the first round of the day with both surfers finding good waves and posting excellent scores which saw them progress easily to the next round. Unfortunately, nature wasn’t cooperating in the next round as the tide pushed in and filled up the contest bank. Quality waves were hard to come by and our U16 boys team missed out by 0.5 of a point from progressing to the semi-final round.

The Open girls finished the day third overall. Both of our surfers have a smooth and graceful surfing style which saw them post excellent scores throughout their heats and into the final. The final was once again a highly competitive heat with many excellent waves being ridden by all competitors.

This year there was a new format for School Team Surfing that gives surfers one opportunity to be involved in the finals round. The emphasis is definitely on trying to make the most of your opportunity in the conditions on the day and to bring a motivated approach to the competition. We will look forward to filling a full team again in 2023 with training to begin in Term 1 on Monday evenings.
